Giving a smartphone to a kid is like asking for them to be glued to games and videos all the time. But for modern parents who need to keep track of their children’s activities and whereabouts, disconnecting entirely isn’t feasible. The imoo Watch Phone Z7 offers a perfect solution, providing kids with essential features like calling, messaging, and location sharing without opening the floodgates to endless digital distractions.
For those who aren't familiar, imoo is a brand that's been around for over a decade, focusing on making wearable devices tailored for kids. They include features like communication tools, activity tracking, and more.
The Z7 keeps imoo’s distinct sturdy yet somewhat stylish design, featuring a 1.3-inch touchscreen display. However, it's not AMOLED, which means it might not be very readable under direct sunlight. Designed to fit most wrists comfortably, the smartwatch feels remarkably robust due to its aluminum alloy body and high-quality strap. On the side of the Watch Phone Z7, there's a single button serving as both a power button for waking the display and turning it off.

Below, there's a SIM card slot to enable those handy connectivity and calling functions. However, removing the tray wasn't a breeze. It's unusually snug and took me quite a few minutes of fiddling with my fingernail before it finally came out.
The watch does feel a tad heavier at grams 65 for kids, but considering it's more of a phone for your wrist (complete with cameras!) rather than your typical smartwatch, it's reasonable.
My favorite feature of the Phone Z7 is on the top – a button that elevates the watch from its frame, providing a more natural video calling experience with the 2MP front camera. It also allows the kid to display things on the other side using the 5MP rear camera.
The Z7 comes with an 'air pressure sensor' and a PPG heart rate monitor. These sensors keep track of the child’s body temperature, heart rate, blood oxygen, and even mood continuously – and the information can be effortlessly synced on the app for the parent to view. Moreover, boasting an IPX8
Inside, the Z7 is powered by a Spreadtrum W317 processor and 4GB of storage, allowing it to effortlessly handle imoo’s simple ‘CaremeOS Lite’ interface without any glitches. Honestly, it runs a lot smoother than most other fitness trackers I've experimented with. With moderate use and minimal camera usage, the 740mAh battery lasted for approximately three days.
As expected, communication remains the main focus of the Z7, much like previous imoo watches. Through the companion app, parents can manage contacts, impose call restrictions, and even start remote audio monitoring.
Though the hardware is impressive, the software experience remains somewhat inconsistent. imoo’s native app manages essential tasks adequately – like voice/video calls, text/audio chats, and location tracking. However, while I haven't tested the iOS companion app, the Android version feels a bit rough around the edges, with awkward menus and questionable English translations. Hopefully, imoo will give it a makeover. soon.
