WhatsApp to Introduce Offline Photo and File Sharing: Here's What You Need to Know

WhatsApp to Introduce Offline Photo and File Sharing: Here's What You Need to Know

1.WhatsApp upped its file sharing capacity to 2GB recently. Soon, the app will allow you to send files or photos to nearby folks without needing the internet. This offline file sharing feature might resemble WhatsApp's take on Nearby Share/Quick Share, which uses Bluetooth to share files with nearby devices.

2.The feature is currently undergoing testing in the Android beta version. In this phase, WhatsApp explicitly requests permission on your phone to access nearby devices, your photo gallery, and your device's location. This aligns with the requirements of Nearby Share for enabling offline file sharing.

3.The great thing about these file-sharing features is that you can choose to disable their access manually whenever you want, which is a helpful safety precaution. While we've heard about the offline sharing feature before, the fact that it's now in a beta testing phase suggests that the official release might be just around the corner.

4.While many apps rely on the internet for functionality, WhatsApp's introduction of an offline feature is a promising development. This is particularly reassuring, as it ensures that content shared with contacts or nearby individuals is fully encrypted, enhancing privacy and security.
